KMLClipper
|
This is an FME Custom Transformer that can be used to clip features using areas digitized in Google Earth. |
 |
Requirements
A recent FME that supports KML input and custom transformers.
Installation instructions
- Download and unzip the file.
- Place the KMLClipper.fmx file in your My Documents\FME\Transformers folder.
- Place the KMLCLIPPER_INPUT.fds file in your My Documents\FME\Formats folder.
Notes
You will need Google Earth Plus or Pro for this, as you need to be able to output KML files.
- In Google Earth, digitize the areas that you want to clip. Make sure they are polygons.
- Save this as a KML file. It's no problem if you have multiple polygons within a folder.
- In FME Workbench, add a source feature of type KMLCLIPPER_INPUT and point it to the KML file you just exported from Google Earth.
- Add the KMLClipper transformer. Connect the KMLCLIPPER_INPUT to its Clipper port and whatever data you want to clip to its Clippee port.
- In the KMLClipper properties, make sure you have set the correct coordinate system for the input data. This is very important since KML data is always in WGS84 (LL84)
- The output ports are the same as the regular Clipper.
The complicated usage with a custom format is necessary because at this time, an FME Custom Transformer cannot have a Reader in it.
Legal
This transformer is offered 'as-is', without any claims regarding its
usability. You are free to use it for any purpose you see fit. Any comments
