Po Valley Panorama
This is a panoramic map of the Po Valley, Appennine Mountains and Alps in Northern Italy. Produced in Visual Nature Studio with additional labelling being done in Adobe Illustrator.
SRTM (post-processed by CGIAR) and ETOPO1 datasets were used for the elevation data, the overlay is 250m TrueMarble satellite imagery with manual touch-ups to bring out the rivers.
3D renderings are an attractive and, if done right, effective way of conveying information about the landscape. This particular view is to illustrate how the river Po and its tributaries drain the water from the southern flanks of the Alps into the Adriatic Sea (Mare Adriatico)
