Oolaalaa
For Oolaalaa - la chaise ronde, Red Geographics produced a set of 3 world maps at different sizes which were used for spherical chairs in 6 sizes ranging from 30 to 140 cm diameter. The major challenge here was to allow for the stretching of the fabric, this meant it was not possible to use a standard map projection.
In addition to the standard map, a number of special versions were made for a number of clients, including National Geographic, Air France / KLM and the City of Amsterdam.
Detail of the special version for Air France / KLM, highlighting their network, as well as the networks of their Skyteam partners. For esthetic reasons, the curved lines from the standard route map were retained, but in reality those would be straight lines when projected on to a sphere.
